What makes a good portrait?
Is it the proper exposure or focus?
Certainly, but that merely identifies the subject.
A good portrait adds something else that is essential.
It captures, in a single frame a bit of the essence of the subject.
Call it their spirit, soul, energy or any name of your liking.
But, it is that quality which makes the subject unique from others.
